Research Committee

This is the formal remit of the committee. A separate page records current membership and recent meetings.

Convener:

Deputy Director of LFCS.

Meetings:

Every term.

Composition

• Director, Deputy Director and Service Manager.
• LFCS academic staff and research fellows.
• One representative each of other research staff and PhD students.

Purpose

The research committee is a forum for focused discussion about LFCS research, and dissemination of relevant information. The committee can table requests to the Director, and ask for reports on relevant items from the Director, Deputy Director or Service Manager as appropriate. Any member of the research committee may bring an item for discussion.

The committee should receive reports on at least the following.

• Grant portfolio.
• Laboratory budget: spending and reserves.
• Relations within the Division of Informatics.
• Membership: numbers and changes of RA's and Phd's.

Various items of business may be reserved for relevant subsets of the research committee, such as all supervisors, or all grant holders. For example.

• At the first meeting of the year, members of the committee who are first or second supervisors should together review the progress of all LFCS postgraduate students.

Minutes

Minutes of meetings are circulated to all members and then made publicly available within the University, omitting reserved material where appropriate.
