Postgraduate Course in Theory of Computation

Courses for the year 2007/2008.

The Laboratory for Foundations of Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh offers a course at postgraduate level covering a wide range of topics in Theoretical Computer Science. The course is intended both for our own first year PhD students and for visiting students from other institutions who wish to acquire a solid grounding in topics relevant to current research in this area. The LFCS is one of the world's leading centres of excellence for research in Theoretical Computer Science, and students will have the opportunity to participate fully in the Laboratory's stimulating research environment.

The selection of modules on offer varies somewhat from year to year, but recent years' modules have included:

The course normally runs in the middle Autumn and Spring terms; visitors may attend for either one or two terms. The usual course fee for visiting students is 800 pounds per term, though grants may be available for students who have no means of affording this. Note that the course does not lead to a formal qualification of any kind; students interested in postgraduate degree courses at Edinburgh are encouraged to consult our MSc and PhD web pages.

Applications and informal inquiries should be addressed to the LFCS Deputy Director, Wenfei Fan
