Intellectual property issues
Software developed on the .NET lab machines should be released as open
source. This will automatically satisfy the intellectual property terms of
the funding agreement between Edinburgh University and Microsoft Research
Limited. In addition, any publications arising from research carried out on
the .NET lab machines must acknowledge support from Microsoft Research
Limited.
Other licencing arrangements are possible, and the University's legal
advisors have drawn up a brief statement of ground rules for work done in the
laboratory.
If you are planning to do substantial development work in the .NET lab then
you should first see one of the people listed below to check the terms of the
original contract. You may also wish to contact Edinburgh Research and Innovation for advice on
funding and commercialisation.
