.NET lab

Intellectual property issues

Software developed on the .NET lab machines should be released as open source. This will automatically satisfy the intellectual property terms of the funding agreement between Edinburgh University and Microsoft Research Limited. In addition, any publications arising from research carried out on the .NET lab machines must acknowledge support from Microsoft Research Limited.

Other licencing arrangements are possible, and the University's legal advisors have drawn up a brief statement of ground rules for work done in the laboratory.

If you are planning to do substantial development work in the .NET lab then you should first see one of the people listed below to check the terms of the original contract. You may also wish to contact Edinburgh Research and Innovation for advice on funding and commercialisation.
